The Pale Sisters
On the highest mountain in the North Akana Mountains stood two pale Veilhorns. The sisters, or as others call them, The Pale Sisters, stood looking out over the range. Raylee the younger of the two was eager to head down out of the mountains, she was ready to head to the celebrations. While, Severyn, was just going to keep an eye on her sister, which she knows loves to get into trouble. “Ray, calm down, we will head out shortly, we must make sure the others are ready as well.” Severyn calmly said. She nudged her sister before turning from the edge, her wings fluttered in the wind. The hair on the tip of her tail twitched, making her look like an agitated cat. Raylee snorted at her sister before turning, following her older sister. “Do you think we will meet anyone new?” she said, excitement laced her voice. Her blue eyes shining, the thought of meeting someone new had her jittery. “I don’t know, sis, it’s possible, we have been in the mountains for some time. Hopefully we do meet someone new, someone cool.” Severyn called back, her form disappearing around a corner. The two mares began to head down the mountain; Severyn in the air and Raylee on the ground. Raylee glanced up at her sister every once in a while, just to make sure the other mare was safe. She felt the wind pick up slightly, wondering what was going on. She lifted her head as the scent of a storm carried itself across the mountains. She picked up a trot, her body angling away from the wind. “Severyn, there is a storm coming, we should hurry and get down the mountain.” She called up, but at that exact moment, the wind picked up. When the wind picked up, Severyn groaned. She hated storms, her worst fear was flying into a dangerous storm and leaving her sister. She glanced down at her sister “I agree, Ray, I will land behind him and travel the rest of the way on hoof.” She called, her wings pulling into her side to drop towards the ground. As the ground got close, her wings snapped open, she slowly touched down before picking up a trot. She got up alongside her sister. She lowered her head as the mountains caused a wind tunnel effect, but knowing her sister, she would use her elemental power to try and soften the wind. Raylee moved along the path, her element causing a slight buzz, allowing the two mares to move without being pushed off the path. She kept her head lowered, just to make it easier. After a few hours, Raylee and Severyn made it down the mountain path. The two mares glanced back at their home, realizing that the storm was only within. “Well, looks like we will be staying down here for the night.” Severyn mumbled, her mood darling as the mountains were hidden by the shadows of the clouds. “Let's go to the Harvest Festival.” She said as she turned towards where the music could be heard. She took off in a trot, her tail flowing behind her. Raylee darted ahead, her mane blowing in the air, her tail dancing behind her. She tossed her head, calling out to her sister “Race you.” She yelled as her stride lengthened. Raylee was the first to appear on the edge of the festivities. She glanced upon all the Veilhorns, each one doing something different. Some were trying something, some were dancing, some were talking to different vendors. She darted around looking at all the different things. Soon, she stopped on the edge of a stall. She watched two mares getting bells attached to them. She was so intent on watching that she never noticed her sister approaching. Severyn huffed as she tried to catch her sister, her body twitching from the run. She gave a gentle nip to her sister’s side. “You shouldn’t have darted off like that, you need to remember to stay safe.” she stated, like it was dangerous here. She pinned her ears as an overly focused stallion bumped into them. “Hey, watch where you are going.” She cried out as she pushed Ray behind her. “You almost knocked my sister over.” She said, stomping her hoof. Raylee was just as energetic as the stallion watched. She hoped her sister would just give it up, it was a celebration and everyone was having fun. “Oh, sorry. I didn’t see you there.” The stallion said, his eyes going wide as he looked upon the two of them. “You're the Pale Sisters.” He said, almost like he was in awe. He lowered his head and gave a gentle bow. “I am so sorry, the name is Salem.” He said, while he looked at the two of them. Raylee looked between the stallion and her sister. “How do you know us?” She asked, her tail twitching with agitation, not from anger but from wonder. She knew that the both of them had rarely ever ventured outside their mountain range. “Oh my, the two of you are like legends. My adoptive mother told me she had an older friend who told her about a set of sisters. She told me that they almost looked alike but not entirely. Though both were pale as the moon, the only difference between the two of them was that their horns were different and one sister had wings, while the other did not.” he said as if remembering the story. His glinting in the low light. His ears move to listen to all the sounds. “I am sorry if I hurt either one of you.” he said in a low voice, almost like he had been told he wasn’t allowed to have any treats. Severyn listened to the stallion before glancing at her sister. She hadn’t known that they were known outside the mountain range, it kinda freaked her out. “Salem, no need to apologize. It’s kinda crowded here. So bumping into others is understandable.” was her reply as she took a step back, her body relaxing. Raylee nodded at what her sister said before moving towards a stall. She looked over the items being offered, she saw a large heart shaped stone laying on the cloth, her eyes instantly twinkling. She asked the Veilhorn how much it was and the elderly stallion shook his head. “Free for one of the Pale Sisters.” His voice, rough with age. Raylee shook her head, “I can’t possibly take it for free, at least let me do something for you.” She whispered, keeping her voice even. She didn’t want the attention, but she knew anywhere that her and her sister went, they would get unwanted attention.
