Terms of Service

1. Introduction

Welcome to Veilhorn.com (the "Service"), a platform designed for roleplaying and sharing art. By accessing or using our website and services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (the "Terms"). If you do not agree with these Terms, you may not use our Service. We may update these Terms periodically, and the updated version will be posted here with the "Last Updated" date.

2. User Accounts

To access certain features of the Service, you must create an account. You are responsible for ensuring the Discord account you sign up with is your own, maintaining your account security, and all activities under your account.

  • Do not share your account or use multiple accounts.
  • Treat all users and staff with kindness and respect. Harassment, bullying, intimidation, or targeted behavior toward others is strictly prohibited.
  • Do not share private or identifying information about yourself or others.
  • You may not attempt to gain unauthorized access, exploit bugs or interfere with the system.
  • By using our Service, you confirm that you are at least 13 years old (or older if local law sets a higher age). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child without parental consent, we will take steps to delete it immediately. Parents or guardians who believe we may have collected data from their child can contact us at veilhorn.privacy@gmail.com to request deletion.

3. User-Generated Content

The Service allows users to upload and share characters, art, writing, and other creative works ("User Content"). By uploading User Content, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display it on your profile, character pages, galleries, and other appropriate areas of the Service where your content is meant to be shown.

  • You are responsible for ensuring that your User Content is legal, appropriate, and does not infringe on others' intellectual property or personal rights.
  • Do not upload or share content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, abusive, hateful, or otherwise objectionable.
  • All User Content should be kept PG-13. Violence is allowed but may need a content warning if it is graphic. Pornographic content of any kind is not permitted, including sexual violence or sexual assault.
  • Derogatory slurs or hateful language targeting a person or group based on race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or similar protected characteristics are not permitted, even when used in character or for role-play purposes.
  • AI-generated or AI-assisted content (including images, text, or media) is not permitted on the Service.
  • Do not use the Service for any commercial or promotional purposes.
  • You may advertise your art, commissions, and character design services in our official Discord.
  • You may not submit or spam User Content with the intent of XP or stat "farming", for example low effort or meaningless content such as "xp sheets", created solely to earn XP/stats or claim rewards.

4. Characters

A "Character" refers to a designed or undesigned Veilhorn genotype with a unique ID.

All character designs uploaded to the Service must be based on an existing Character that the user owns.

  • Users retain ownership of their created characters and may upload designs made by others only with explicit permission from the original creator. The creator of the design must be credited upon design submission.
  • You may bring your pre-existing characters into Veilhorn as long as you have the rights to use the design. The design might need to be altered to fit Veilhorn genetics.
  • When a character is transferred to another user, the new owner obtains full rights to use, reproduce, modify, and resell the character. The previous owner forfeits ownership and cannot revoke or restrict use.
  • Designs must not infringe on any third party's intellectual property or include copyrighted material without permission. You may not base characters on existing copyrighted or trademarked characters or material.

Character Templates:

The Service provides character template files intended for designing Characters. These are subject to the following terms:

  • You may share finished character designs created with these templates, provided you credit the Service when posting them on external sites.
  • The templates and files are only for creating Veilhorn character designs (and may also be used for Veilhorn reference sheets). You may not use them to create non-Veilhorn adoptables or items for sale.
  • You may sell custom character designs and custom design parts/assets (horns or mutation linearts), but these must be sold as a commission intended for either a single character or for a single buyer to use. The template may not be turned into a "pay to use" premium resource, or restricted behind a paywall. Commissioned parts/assets may only be turned into free and public community assets if both the buyer and seller agree.
  • The Service owns the original design template. Any edits or modifications to the template ("Assets") are shared between the person who made them and the user they were made for. This means:
    • You do not own the original template itself.
    • Assets you make for yourself belong to you.
    • If you create custom assets for another user, you grant that user a perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use and modify those assets for personal and non-commercial use only. This license continues even if you leave the Service or delete your account.
    • By uploading assets to the #modded-design-templates forum, you grant the Service and its users a perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, modify, and redistribute those assets within the forum for non-commercial purposes only under the same terms. Assets shared in the forum may not be sold, licensed for payment, or redistributed commercially. This permission cannot be withdrawn, even if you later leave the Service or remove the file.
  • You may not modify the template with the use of AI, or use the template to train AI.

5. Transactions

Users may buy, sell, trade, or exchange their art, characters, character designs, or digital assets with others. However:

  • The virtual currency ("Silver Coins") has no real-world monetary value and may not be sold or exchanged for real money.
  • The Service does not facilitate or take responsibility for any real-money transactions. Off-site trades are done at your own risk.
  • Engaging in scams, fraud, or abusive behavior in transactions may result in suspension or permanent account termination.

6. Termination of Access and Account Deletion

We reserve the right to moderate content and enforce these Terms, including removing content or suspending accounts that violate them.

We may suspend or terminate your account without prior notice for any violation. Upon termination, you must stop using the Service and delete any materials obtained from it.

You can delete your account at any time in your account settings.

For terminated or deleted accounts:

  • All associated data and content will be permanently removed.
  • The user retains ownership of their characters and designs, but may no longer use the Veilhorn character template for them, and the characters may no longer be called Veilhorns or be associated with Veilhorns.
  • Owned characters will be marked as "Deceased" and their designs will be removed from the Service, but IDs and genotypes remain for record-keeping to keep Character lineages intact.
  • Undesigned genotypes without lineage may have their IDs repurposed by the Service for future use.

7. Disclaimer and Liability

The Service is provided "as-is" and "as available." We make no guarantees about the availability, accuracy, or reliability of the Service. By using the Service, you acknowledge that you do so at your own risk.

We are not responsible for any losses, damages, or issues that may arise from:

  • Using the Service, including account issues, bugs, or downtime.
  • Interactions or transactions with other users.
  • Content uploaded by other users.

As a hobby site, we provide the Service for free, and you should not rely on it for commercial or critical purposes.

9. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms of Service occasionally. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top.
