The spring air was crisp, morning dew collecting like pearls on tender blades of grass. The sun rudely awakened the chestnut mare from her ideal napping spot under the shade of the trees, perhaps she needed to rethink her spot since the sun rose much earlier now. Raising her head with drowsy, squinted eyes, she turned away from the blinding light to shield her eyes in some form. From the moment she woke up, Brisa craved to get moving. Staying still was never in her nature. Her amber forelegs pulled her to her feet, her tail immediately swaying to relieve the lingering stiffness from her nap. Looking around with curious red eyes, she began to think to herself. What do I feel like doing…? She knew the festivities in town were ongoing, celebrating the turn of the seasons, but she hesitated at the thought of large crowds. Being suffocated wasn’t exactly something she’d look forward to. To keep her wits about her, Brisa began pacing her way to a nearby clearing, planning to have her own fun without the assistance of others.
Making her way to the field, her eyes caught sight of new spring gifts. The grasses were dotted with flowers of varying shapes and colors; vibrant yellows, soft lavender, and powdery blues. A smile broke out on her face as she eyed the flowers, eager to come to a decision on whether a frolic or a snack should be the first order of business. The breeze carried with it the fresh scent of afternoon play, and was decorated with loose petals it collected up until now. The colors danced just above her head in a daring invitation. Brisa snorted in agreement, deciding that she would defy the superiority of the flowers that retreated above her head. Hopping into the clearing with a clear mission to race the petals to the middle of the field, Brisa began cantering, watching with pleased intrigue as the colorful leaflets dropped and were carried once again by the breeze. On the chance that one would get too close to her nose, she’d eagerly reach with her lips to pull the petals in her mouth. A little snack on the go, don’t mind if I do. Maybe spring wasn’t so bad after all.
