Reference
Character name
As long as your character's name does not break the site TOS (containing abusive or harmful language such as slurs) there are no naming conventions you have to follow. You can give your character any name, including stable prefixes/affixes (common in realistic HARPGs).
Character reference image
Your character's reference image has to match their current design. Reference images can optionally be fully or partially veiled and shapeshifted, but the design itself (colours and markings) have to match your character's approved design, and should not look like a different character or have different horns, markings, or other features.
In your character's settings you have the option of uploading a reference image. The reference image will automatically be shown instead of the design on the character's profile (the design can still be accessed from the design tab).
The character's reference can be any image you want of the character, for example showing the design from a different angle, side-by-side comparisons between its veiled and true form designs, a portrait, or perhaps just an artwork that you would rather have visible on its profile than the design template.
Character references can be changed or deleted at any time. Character references must follow the same rules as other user content, which means you may not upload content you do not own or have permission to use.
An important note regarding references is that it will not count for XP on its own, if you wish for the reference to count for XP then you must also upload it as an art submission, as any other artwork.
The lineart template that is used for Veilhorn designs may also be used for reference images, but may not be reuploaded as art.
