Appearance
Mosaic appears as a patchwerk of darker and lighter variations of the basecoat. Darker patches can be anywhere between completely black to only slightly darker than the basecoat. Lighter accent patches are optional, and should be fewer or smaller than the darker patches, and only be slightly lighter than the basecoat (a dark-colored horse cannot have near-white light accents).
Mosaic markings should appear natural similar to how chimerism appears in real life horses, and should not depict specific objects or symbols.
The mosaic pattern has the unique ability to also affect other patterns and white patterns, letting the markings and patterns display differently in each mosaic patch. For example (as shown in the appaloosa example) the bay base coat has snowflake appaloosa (an optional appearance of leopard appaloosa), while the dark mosaic patches shows regular leopard appaloosa.
Mosaic should never "turn off" other present markings or patterns, for example (as shown on the blue chestnut example) all the mosaic patches still shows pard - just with different spot shapes.
- Patterns are always darker than the base color, and can optionally have lighter accents.
- Can optionally be affected by certain Modifiers:
- Bronze turns patterns bronze or rich brown.
- Flaxen turns patterns creamy white or lighter than the base coat. (only affects chestnut-based (ee) coats)
- Silver turns patterns white or lighter than the base coat. (only affects black-based (EE or Ee) coats)
- Chromatic turns patterns into a different hue or saturation.
- Grey can leave the patterns unaffected (doesn't grey out), or leave the entire body unaffected and only the patterns grey out.
- Can be affected by Shimmer in many different ways, see shimmer guide for details.
- Always goes below White patterns.
- Doesn't affect skin, eye or hoof/horn color.
- Can optionally affect mane/tail.
