Genetics

Base: seal bay

Genotype:

Appearance

Seal bay only shows on black-based (EE or Ee) coats. It is also recessive to bay (A), making it a less common bay variation. Seal bay restricts the brown areas on the coat to the muzzle, eyes, and flanks. The black point expression will always minimally affect the legs, and gradually darken the rest of the body generally starting from the topline. Just like with regular bay, the brown areas of seal bay can be any shade that chestnut is allowed to be. The body coat is allowed to be a dark brown, with lighter brown around the flanks and muzzle. The black points (legs, mane, tail, and rims of ears) must still be plain black.

Examples

The following examples are allowed variations of seal bay, and show how the coat can vary in brightness and tone, as well as black point expression. Feel free to copy the colours or pick something inbetween.
