Genetics

Genotype options:

Unlike in real horses, characters with homozygous overo (OO) are perfectly healthy, and will not die from what is usually known as "lethal white".

Appearance

Overo (also known as Frame Overo) causes irregular white patterns on the sides, surrounded by a "frame" of the base color of the horse. Overo is never allowed to touch the topline/spine past the withers. On the Wyrm and Marean bloodline, overo can optionally go on the tail as long as it does not touch the topline.

Overo always affects mane where it touches.

At minimal expression overo needs to have at least one white irregular spot somewhere on the body, anywhere within the allowed range.

Large white markings on the face and legs are allowed but optional, overo white markings are allowed to extend down the legs or cause "broken" socks that don't connect all the way.

Minimum requirement:

  • A white marking somewhere on the body within the allowed range.

Minimum requirements can be reduced or completely removed by the occlusion trait.

Allowed:

  • Can optionally cause bold face and leg markings.

Not allowed:

  • May not touch the topline/spine on the back/rear, or the tail (may affect the tail on Marean and Wyrm bloodlines, as long as it does not touch the topline of the tail).

Eye colour: Light blue

Optional: Optionally allows light blue eyes regardless if the white markings touch the eye or not.

Skin colour: Lightened/pink

Lightened/pink

Skin on areas affected by white markings must be light peachy pink or a lightened version of the natural skin colour.

Horn/hoof colour: Lightened

Lightened
Lightened

Lightens naturally coloured horns and hooves where the white markings touch. Optionally lightens elemental/mutation horns and hooves.

Badger face is an optional effect of Overo

The minimum requirements of Overo must still be met regardless if Badger face is shown or not.

Badger face is not listed in the phenotype, a Overo with Badger face is still only written as Overo.

Appearance

Badger face causes the white facial marking to have occluded spots, appearing as reversed blazes or white stripes along the sides of the head.

Eye colour:

Affects eye colour the same way overo does.

Skin colour:

Affects skin colour the same way overo does.

Horn/hoof colour:

Affects horn and hoof colour the same way overo does.
