Appearance
Sooty adds black or dark hairs to the coat, giving it a gradiented darkening effect. Sooty can range anywhere from pure black to just slightly darker than the base coat, and can be black even if dilutes are present.
Sooty can affect any part of the body. Can optionally affect mane/tail where the sooty touches.
Minimum requirement:
- Visibly darker area somewhere on the body, with a soft gradiented darkening effect.
Minimum requirements can be reduced or completely removed by the [LINK] occlusion trait.
Allowed:
- Can be just slightly darker than the coat colour, or can be completely black even if dilutes are present.
- Can affect mane/tail where the sooty coat touches.
- Can affect any part of the body, not just the topline.
Not allowed:
- Can not affect mane/tail if the sooty on the coat is not touching.
- Can not cover the entire body, some of the underlying coat colour should be visible.
Eye colour:
Doesn't affect eye colour.
Skin colour:
Doesn't affect skin colour.
Horn/hoof colour:
Doesn't affect horn or hoof colour.

Dapples is an optional effect of Sooty
The minimum requirements of Sooty must still be met regardless if Dapples is shown or not.
Dapples is not listed in the phenotype, a Sooty with Dapples is still only written as Sooty.
Appearance
Dapples can be darker or lighter, appearing as holes in the sooty or as sooty-colored dapples.

Doesn't affect eye colour.
Skin colour:
Doesn't affect skin colour.
Horn/hoof colour:
Doesn't affect horn or hoof colour.

Soot flakes is an optional effect of Sooty
The minimum requirements of Sooty must still be met regardless if Soot flakes is shown or not.
Soot flakes is not listed in the phenotype, a Sooty with Soot flakes is still only written as Sooty.
Appearance
Sooty can optionally have soot flakes or "grease spots", causing dark smudges or spots in the coat. The spots can have soft or sharp edges.
Soot flakes are always darker than the coat, and can optionally affect mane and tail.
